God Is Your Guide

By: Sarah Geringer

Are you seeking guidance in your decisions? Many of us want to know how to move forward with God's help. By mediating on verses that describe God as your guide, you can use them as springboards for prayer in God's guidance.

These verses can help you learn how God is your guide for whatever decision you are facing.

By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.

Exodus 13:21 NIV

Just as God guided the Israelites through the wilderness with his presence, he is guiding you both day and night. He guides all people who want to follow him.

He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

Psalm 23:3 NLT

God will never guide you along a path that’s wrong. Trust that he will lead you in a righteous path so his name is honored.

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Psalm 25:5 NIV

The truth of God’s Word is your guide. Study his word to find hope and deepen your faith.

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.

Psalm 25:9 NIV

God seeks those who are humble to receive his truth. Pray for humility while you pray for guidance.

Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me.

Psalm 43:3 NLT

You can find greater truth and light for your path by meditating on God’s Word. It will serve as your guide for making decisions.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

Psalm 139:9-10 NIV

No matter where we go, we can find God’s guidance through his Word and through prayer. This comforting verse will help you find guidance when you feel uncertain of where you are headed.

When you walk, [God’s commands] will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.

Proverbs 6:22 NIV

No matter what time of day it is, God’s Word guides our hearts. You can ask him for guidance and meditate on his word in the morning, noon and night.

The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.

Isaiah 58:11 NLT

The guidance of God brings nourishment, life, and strength. His guidance makes us beautiful like a fruitful garden.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.

John 16:13 NLT

The Holy Spirit guides us through revealing the meaning of God’s Word. Pray specifically that the Holy Spirit will guide you in your decisions.

Which verse above inspires you most in trusting God as your guide?

Here's a prayer to encourage you today:

Heavenly Father,

I praise you as my guide in all the seasons of life.
Thank you for all the Scripture verses that remind me you are my guide.
Help me meditate on these verses to hide them in my heart and mind.
I believe that as I turn to you first as my guide my faith in you will deepen.
Thank you in advance for the ways you will guide me this year.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
