A Prayer for the Holiday Season

By: Sarah Geringer

Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the holiday season.
The times of joy and celebration ahead.
Even though I have suffered through valleys
and my problems aren't all fixed,
I can always sing your praises.

Today I proclaim your greatness.
You rule over my health, my feelings, and my struggles.
You have perfect dominion over my past
peaceful rule over my present
and prescient control over my future.

Today I celebrate your goodness.
You give me many blessings
both small and large
that I can appreciate every day.
Remind me that all things come to me
through your loving hands.

Jesus, thank you for the days to come,
when I can remember and rejoice
in your arrival on earth
as a humble baby boy
who came to take my place
on the cross.

Thank you for everything you've done
to grow my faith.
The power of your Word
the influence of Bible teachers
the encouragement of godly friends.
I take joy in all the gifts of faith
you have already provided to me.

This season, I want to let the whole world
know what you've done for me.
Give me courage to share the stories
of your goodness to me.
I pray you will give me wisdom and discernment
about how and when to share.
Whether it is in person, via text or phone,
or on social media,
help me share your love, joy and peace
with those who need to know you.

I love you, Lord!
You have been so good to me.
Help me to remember this
when I feel weary, stressed, or discouraged
this holiday season.
Remind me to cast my cares on you.
Empower me with your Holy Spirit
to share spiritual fruits
with everyone around me.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.
