Overwhelming Victory

By: Joanne Viola

The familiar words come back to mind: “… in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

And yet on any given day, I can be overwhelmed … by my to-do list, getting caught up on the laundry, paying bills, work, or just thinking about all I need to get done.

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ Jesus who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39, NLT)

While these verses point us to the power to overcome persecution and death, they can also be applied to our lives each and every day, even in the most practical of ways.

We can face difficulties and not just muddle our way through them by the skin of our teeth. We need not go to bed with a sigh of relief just glad the day is done. Rather we can put our heads down at night, with a cheer, for we came through the day overcoming the obstacles.

One commentary helps us to understand our position in Christ:
“The love of God gives us “a glorious hyper-victory,” more than can be described or contained in one word. God’s love and grace has made us hyper-conquerors, empowered to be unrivaled, more than a match for any foe!”
(from The Passion Translation, as found on Bible Gateway)
We need to see ourselves as we have been positioned in Christ. It is His love, His power, which enables us to face adversity and overcome. Jesus empowers us to conquer all the obstacles in our lives, one day at a time.

This is what He has made us —> “hyper-conquerors”.
Go in His power and overcome!
