Praying for Our Nation

By: Jenifer Metzger

We are living in troubled times. From crime to hatred to violence to racism to political difference to changing who God created us to be, there is so much hurt in our world. People who at one time were friendly with one another are now at odds. People who felt safe now live in fear.

We scroll our personal social media accounts in hopes of seeing how a relative is doing or what our friend did over the weekend, yet instead we see post after post after post of hatred and disagreement. One person hates our President and bashes his every move, while another sings his praises, only causing more of a divide. One says racism no longer exists, while another was just a victim of it. One is struggling to find work and keep their home, while another doesn't understand the struggle and has no compassion.

This world is hurting.

There is only one thing we can do my friends. One very simple answer. Yet one very powerful answer.

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything,
through prayer and petition with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6

Praying for our nation. #prayer #pray #July4th #IndependenceDay #USA

We need to pray.

As we head into a holiday of celebrating our beloved nation, will you join me in praying over our nation?

Father,

We thank You for this land. We thank You for the freedoms we have in this country and in You. We thank You for Your abundant blessings in our lives. Lord, we are facing difficult times and we ask that You would be with us. We ask that You would turn hearts to You. We ask that you would help us to live with compassion and grace and to help us love with the love You first loved us with. We ask that you would help us to forgive others as You have forgiven us {Matthew ‭6:14-15}. We also ask that you help seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly {Micah 6:8}. Help us to look beyond skin color, career paths, social status, or political views, and to see the person; a person You created and You love. Help us to spread love, not hate. And Father help us to choose prayer over bashing others, including praying over our country's leaders instead of bad mouthing them. Be with us and guide us in all that we say, do, and think.

In Jesus name,
Amen
