Social Media Wars

by Debi Baker

"22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things."
Galatians 5:22-23 CSB

I think that with everything going on in the news today, we need to be reminded that God would desire us to display the fruit of the Spirit more readily!!!  It seems that at every turn someone is posting something for or against certain situations going on.  I understand that we have a right to have opposing opinions but we shouldn't be so quick to jump down someone's throat.  Agree to disagree!  The left goes after the right!  The right goes after the left!  Arguing isn't going to change a thing!

The best defense we have is not to post all over Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Our best defense is to 'hit our knees!!'  And that doesn't mean to pray God changes everyone else's mind!  It means to pray for God's will to be done no matter what that might be!

To be honest, I'm just about ready to take a sabbatical from social media.  It's not that I want to put my head in the sand and ignore what's going on in the world; I just want everyone to take a step back and re-evaluate the reasons we post what we post.  Are we posting to get a rise out of someone or are we posting because we want to make a difference?  I challenge you ... and myself ... to think twice before we post anything.  Think about what you're trying to say with that post.  Let's try to lift others up!  Let's try to stay positive in a negative world!  God gave us a mass between our ears called a brain.  Let's use it to encourage and brighten an otherwise dark world!!

Remember this, if you profess to be a Christian and you post Chrisitan things...when you post negativity and political rants, etc, you are negating your testimony!

Have a blessed day!!

  1. I so agree. I usually just scroll on by on social media and never comment unless it is actually a social post because over the years have learned what the backlash will be and it serves no purpose. Social Media should be just that social. I am amazed and saddened at times at how people can respond with such hatred when behind a keyboard. I love your saying just hit our knees and will remember that when tempted to respond to a post that is upsetting. Thanks.
