Fine Arts - Gifts - Talents

by Debi Baker

Fine Arts is a discipleship tool of the National Youth Ministries of the Assemblies of God.  Fine Arts is designed to 'help students discover, develop and deploy their ministry gifts.  I've been involved in Fine Arts in our church for about 6 years.  I love it.  I love watching our middle schoolers and high schoolers as they discover their gifts and talents.  I love taking them to the District Festival every spring and when they receive a "Superior w/ Invitation" rating we start planning for the trip to the National Festival later that summer.  Not every student receives this special rating.  It is reserved for the best.  And if they are the best of the best in their category at a given festival they may receive the Merit Award, the highest score for their category for that festival.  Not only do they receive a rating from Poor to Superior w/ Invitation, they receive judge sheets.  There is 1 judge sheet from each of 3 judges.  On these judge sheets will be comments, ie:  constructive criticism.  Watching each of these young men and women read these comments and seeing them accept them without getting angry or crying...well, it just shows me how grown up each of them are!!  I don't think I could receive that criticism, constructive or otherwise, without getting upset!  They are amazing...because they are using the talents and gifts that God has given them to GLORIFY HIS NAME!!!

At our District Festival in April, we took 7 students.  They were involved in a total of 7 or 8 different categories (out of thousands available).  Two of the students received a Superior w/ Invitation rating and each of the other students received Excellent ratings.  They all did an amazing job.  I think back to my teenage years and think, 'There's no way I'm standing up in front of judges and other kids and singing a solo.'  I know these kids are nervous when performing or submitting art or stories, but each and every one of them ignore the nerves and do amazing!!!

Good Luck, Ladies!!
So, at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, we load my Suburban and head to California for the 2017 National Youth Convention & Fine Arts Festival where 2 high school students and 1 college student from our church will enter their story, pictures, t-shirt design and short sermon into competition with thousands of other teens from all over the world!!

It's a wonderful experience and it helps them to grow as they showcase their gifts and talents from God to the world.  I am so excited for them.  I see the gifts God has given them and how they've grown over the past 6 years and I am blown away!  I am blown away by their eagerness to share with the world.  I am blown away by their talent!

2 Timothy 1:6 NIV, "6 ...I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God..."

1 Peter 4:10 NKJV, "10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."

I believe God has great things in store for these young people.  I can't wait to see where He takes them!

What are your gifts and talents?  Where has God gifted you?  Do you share that gift in His name?  I encourage you to use the gifts and talents God has blessed you with.

Have a great day!
