3 Steps to Pouring Jesus Out on Others

by Debi Baker

"A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare."
Proverbs 15:1 NLT

Boy, if we could grasp the fullness of this verse it would make a world of difference in our life!  We live in a me, me, me world.  It seems like nobody takes any time for anything but themselves.  It's like we strut around saying, 'What are you going to do for me?  How are you make me feel good?'  Hard as I try, I have even found myself feeling this way!  Lord, help me!   Lord, help us!

That attitude, that me, me, me attitude, is NOT the attitude that Jesus would have.  I have never found any place in the word of God that Jesus is portraying that kind of attitude!  With that said, I am working...God is working on me...to have an attitude of love and sacrifice.  I want to portray Jesus in every aspect of my life.  In fact, I want to be such a threat to the devil that he trembles when I walk in a room.  And that can be, if and when I am so full of Jesus that He seeps out of my pores!

So, how do we get that full of Jesus?
1)  We spend time EVERY DAY reading God's word.  How can we know how to act if we don't read the Instruction Book?

2)  We spend time in prayer EVERY DAY.  And I'm not talking about a short little prayer thanking God for waking me up and asking for His help throughout the day and then never giving Him another thought until you drop into bed.  No!  I'm talking about giving God t-i-m-e!  Start your prayer time by thanking Him for who He is.  Slowly move on to thanking Him for the blessings He has given you.  Praise Him.  Love on Him.  Worship Him.  Then move on to your petitions (asking) and finish out with again thanking Him for who He is.  Then just rest in His presence!  Doesn't the Creator of the Universe and YOU deserve more than 5 minutes of your day?

3)  Walk in His ways.  You've read and prayed; now walk what you've read.  Walk what He has spoken to you.  Live the best you can to be like Jesus.  Go out of your way to have the attitude of Jesus.  Shock the world around you as you change that me, me, me attitude to one of 'how can I help you?'

I'm not saying this is an easy way of life.  Especially when the world says me, me, me!  You will likely feel like a fish swimming against the flow!  Good!  God never said it would be easy but it will definitely be worth it!

The verse above speaks more of having a gently answer rather than one of anger.  But if you apply the same principle to having an attitude like Jesus, it's the same thing.  When the world comes at you with its' me, me, me attitude...turn that around with gentleness.  Turn it around by being Jesus with skin on.  You might be surprised by the reaction of those around you when you go against the norm!
