The Greatest Roller Coaster Ride

By: Jenifer Metzger

My husband and I love roller coasters. Last summer we had a date at the local amusement park. We made sure to hit every roller coaster. It was so much fun! Roller coasters give you a wide variety of emotions. First you feel the excitement of the ride coming. Then some impatience for waiting in line so long. Can I get an amen? Then you climb in to the cart, buckle up and begin that steep first climb and anticipation sets in. You wait and climb and wait and climb. Now you are at the top! Here it goes! That downhill thrill! You scream as your stomach does a little flip flop. As thrilling as it is, it is a little scary too. So many emotions in those few short minutes.

There is something even better than a roller coaster. Marriage. In marriage you will feel all of those emotions. From excitement to impatience to anger to anticipation to a thrill to joy. So many emotions, good and bad. And just like a roller coaster, our marriages will have many ups and downs and many twists and turns. Sometimes a roller coaster will give you an unexpected turn that throws your stomach into a tailspin. The same is with marriage. Sometimes something happens in marriage and we are thrown into a tailspin. It can be scary or upsetting, but if we stick with it, oh the thrill we will find!

Friends, enjoy the ride of marriage. Take the twists and turns and the ups and downs and learn from them. Move forward with them. Marriage is good and marriage can be fun. Enjoy it!

  1. We celebrate 40 years this summer, and yes, it's a wild ride, but worth the endurance!
