Lately, everywhere I turn God is speaking to me about loving others. I'm not sure why, but it's there! Perhaps I don't love enough. Perhaps He is just trying to get me to see something I'm not seeing. I don't know why, but I do know that He loves everyone...everyone! So, since I keep seeing, hearing, feeling scriptures about love, there is a message for me.
This verse is one of the most intense verses on love. John is telling us that God is LOVE and that we are to love each other because that's what God does! John goes on to say that if we don't love others then we don't know God...because God is LOVE!
This means that we are to love the unlovable. The homeless! The one who bully's my daughter at school! The teller at the bank that insists on asking for my license, even though she knows I am me! The thug that lives down the street! Yes...anyone from any walk of life...we are to love because God does!
Proverbs 15:1 NIV tells us "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Have you ever thought about how the way we speak says volumes about how we love? That is something that God is showing me on a daily basis! I think of how Jesus always responded to His critics. He was always gentle and kind...loving!
If this world would love more and hate less, it would make so much difference!!
