When your heart feels hard and cold...

A heart can turn as hard and cold as ice. A heart that once burned with zeal and passion for God,that once flowed with love for others, can, for a myriad of possible reasons, become hard, become cold. Maybe it's due to weariness, woundedness, or too much outflow without enough inflow.  For whatever reason, the heart feels numb. How do you thaw a cold, hard heart?

God's Word can melt a icy heart, the wind of His Spirit can cause His love to flow through it again. I've been there, maybe you've been there too. If your heart is feeling numb, cold, hardened, warm your heart with the fire of His word and ask God to thaw and soften it. The Psalms are a good place to start. David, who wrote so many of them, is so transparent about his heart struggles and, thank God, we can be, too. Invite His Spirit in and ask Him to refresh you in your weariness, to heal your pain and wounds, to fill up your emptiness, to help you be a channel of His love again. The same God who turns the winter into spring, every single year since the earth was created, is more than able to breathe new life into you.

  1. So true, after the melting so often come a time where we need to examine if and where we responded with that cold heart in front. May be some people to seek forgiveness from. Perhaps we had a cold or harsh word come forth where we need to correct that. I believe that is part of this journey also. Thanks for the good word. Linda ps. LOL My last name is actually Stanhope there is an e at the end. Not sure what happened to that. ;)

  2. Sometimes I'm not even aware of the hardness of my heart until He shines His light on it. A time of growth always follows the cold winter. Praise God!

  3. Good words Elizabeth. I agree with the Southern Gal. Search my heart Lord & reveal to me any area that has gone cold. By the washing/warming of His word. Heal us Lord!

  4. The Psalms have carried me through many barren, desolate valleys. Praise God Who gives the water of Life to a dry and deary land. Blessings on your Sabbath, Elizabeth!

  5. I am so grateful that He melts my heart quickly through a Scripture, or a song, or a message. Such a good word you brought us, Elizabeth. The Amplified combined with your photo drive the point home powerfully. Grateful to have stopped here this afternoon. Blessings!
