On Borrowed Time...

by Debi Baker

August 9th I got home after a 9 day trip to Florida.  On August 11th, my air conditioner decided to die.  Now, this ac unit was 25 years old, which by industry standards is almost twice the life it should have had.  We've known for a while that we were on borrowed time with the ac/furnace, but we hoped to keep them running for a l-o-n-g time.  That was not the case.

Trying to be the positive thinker and trust God, I 'said' with my words that we would just have to have no ac for a while.  After all, purchasing a new unit was not in the budget!  As with Mid-west summers, the days were growing increasingly warm and with each passing day, my patience was growing thinner.  I was trying to be pleasant and positive and not succeeding at either.

I prayed to God telling Him I'd seen Him heal inanimate objects in the past and knew He could fix the ac if it was His will.  Well, apparently this time wasn't one of those times.

My hubby, the man whom I get furious at sometimes...the man I'd like to strangle from time to time...the man who holds my heart in his hands, amazes me.  He began to call around for some estimates and if you know my hubby, that's not what he does unless it's for his business.  He normally tells me to call.  Anyway, he took it upon himself, knowing that the heat was too much for me, and got the bids.  As God would have it, a friend of ours who does this work was the least expensive bid and Jim worked out with him to replace our furnace/ac units with new 96% efficiency units.  Lower utilities bills!  PRAISE GOD!!

So, after 8 long days in the heat and humidity, we now have ac!  I slept so well last night!  I am so blessed by my hubby!  I am thankful that God is a God that cares for His children!  I am so thankful for friends in business who are willing to work with us.  And I am thankful that I have a God that I KNOW will keep help us pay for this!  I will no longer take my air conditioner for granted!  Sadly, I know I would not make it with out it but blessed that I don't have to!!

"17 I will thank the Lord because He is just;
I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High."
Psalm 7:17 NLT

Have a blessed week!
