I love Christmas music. The day following Thanksgiving we turn all of our radios to a station that exclusively plays Christmas music. Christmas songs from ages past, as well as some new, fill our home and car as we celebrate the season of the Jesus' birth.
There has always been one Christmas song that I never really liked. I don't really even know why. Yet when this song would come on the radio, I would turn it down. The Little Drummer Boy. I know! You probably love the song and think I've lost my mind, but I just couldn't do it.
Until recently. One of my favorite music groups, For King & Country, did a live version of The Little Drummer Boy that will blow you away. If you've ever seen For King & Country live in concert, you know how dynamic they are and you know how amazing their percussion is. When my dad showed me the video, I paused to listen. I think for the first time in my life, I really listened to the song. The words are pretty powerful. The boy in the song didn't have gold, frankincense or myrrh to offer the baby Jesus, he had nothing.
Just like the story of the widow who offered only a couple small coins, which was all she had (Mark 12 & Luke 21), the drummer boy offered all he had, a song. That's all He wants. He wants what we have. He wants us to trust Him enough to give all to Him with open hands.
Are you like the boy or the widow? You don't have a lot to offer Jesus? Friend, just give all you have and watch what He does with it.
I think The Little Drummer Boy may just be a my new favorite Christmas song.
